Welcome to Local Hippie’s weekly tip for living a greener life! Each week we will provide you with a quick tip to help you reduce your carbon footprint and change the world.
This week’s tip: We’re feeling inspired by the spring weather, so this week’s tip is to skip the dryer and hang your clothes outside!
> Hanging your clothes to dry, either on a clothesline or drying rack, promotes energy conservation. The average household can reduce their carbon footprint by a whopping 2,400 pounds a year by hanging their clothes to dry!
> It saves you money! The average household can save up to $300 dollars a year on hydro by discontinuing the use of their dryer.
> It’s gentle on clothing! The excessive high heat and tumbling in a dryer can be damaging to some fabrics. Hanging to dry is more gentle and will help your clothing items last much longer.
> It gives you an opportunity to get outside! Hanging your clothes outside gives you a chance to enjoy some sunshine and fresh air, while still getting your chores done.
