Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Mike Mantha removed from NDP caucus – undergoing investigation

By Rosalind Russell – The Ontario NDP says it has removed Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Michael Mantha from its caucus over allegations of “misconduct” relating to “an alleged inappropriate relationship with a staffer”.

The new leader of the NDP Marit Stiles shared the information on Saturday.

Stiles says a third party is handling the investigation and the NDP is keeping some information private to protect the identity of the individual who made it.

Mantha, who’s held the riding since 2011, has been on a leave from his MPP duties since early December.

Mantha was the Official Opposition critic for natural resources, mines, and Ring of Fire issues until Stiles reorganized the roles last week with Mantha’s portfolio reduced to mines alone.

Mantha will sit as an Independent MPP as the alleged workplace misconduct is investigated.

The Moose has not received a response from Mantha.
