By Rosalind Russell – Area Community Foundations across the north have awarded just over $450,000 to 12 organizations, and eight are located in Algoma.
Area Community Foundation Executive Director Robin Sutherland says the investments are part of the Government of Canada’s Investment Readiness Program.
One of the recipients is the Well Ministries in Blind River to support the Investing in Blind River’s Youth Centre, with the seven others located in Sault Ste. Marie.
The program provides $10,000 to $75,000 to create, manage, and expand social enterprises in order to prepare them for future investment.
This funding has supported 12 projects including the following eight projects in Algoma:
$39,500 to The Well Ministries to support the “Investing in Blind River’s Youth Center” project;
$25,000 to fund Algoma Traditional Music and Dance Group on St. Joseph Island to support the AlgomaTrad Investment Readiness Initiative;
