School board aware some data compromised

By Rosalind Russell – Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board says it has been ‘transparent’ with stakeholders and ‘worked diligently’ to bolster its cyber defences since a ransom ware attack last December.

In a new release, the board also says it learned important lessons from the attack and implemented stronger cybersecurity defences.

The school board had mailed letters to an undisclosed number of students and recent graduates, warning them that their personal information was compromised in the attack as well as staff members employed between 2019 and 2022.

The board did not say how many students received a letter nor whether a ransom was paid to retrieve the stolen data.
