City of Elliot Lake moving forward on Strategic Plan

By Rosalind Russell – Opening talk sessions with the public is the gist of a recommendation made by a consultant hired by the City of Elliot Lake to move ahead with their Strategic Plan, which will provide a blueprint of growing the city over the next few years.

Strategic planning consultant Tim Dobbie of Tim L. Dobbie Consulting Limited based in Burlington met with council last week to present the third draft of the plan.

He says the plan contains over 20 strategies, including marketing outdoor lifestyles, ensuring adequate public transportation while balancing the budget, healthcare, business retention, improving airport and internet services, and working closer with First Nations.

Dobbie said the second draft was the only one open to the public, but there should be more transparency and discussion with the ratepayers who will be guided by the document.

He further advised council to host three or four public drop-in sessions highlighting the document, especially its goals, that have been drafted so far.

Council indicated they want to move ahead and will look at hosting sessions in mid-summer for public review before the document goes to final reading.
