By Grant Lewis – Did you know the tallest Sunflower was recorded in Germany and soared over thirty feet! Also, a sunflower has hundreds, if not thousands of tiny flowers which all turn to seed and make a great bird feeder.
Once again, the Espanola Gardeners will be sponsoring along with our local Moose FM station, a contest for those who love sunflowers. There will be two age groups: twelve years and under as of September 1st and everyone else! Prizes will be awarded in each age category: the tallest, the largest seed head, and the most flowers on one stem.
Measuring, “ladder climbing”, and counting will take place September 1st and if necessary the 2nd. To register your plant, please call 869-5798 and leave a message with your name, address, age, and category……Good luck. If you are a sunflower you are a happy camper so far this summer.
