RHT community consultations underway

By Rosalind Russell – The 39-member First Nations that fall under the Robinson-Huron Treaty have begun their public consultations within their communities.

The federal and provincial governments have reached a tentative $10-billion settlement with the member First Nations in dealing with annuities

Mississauga First Nation Chief Bob Chiblow says he is proud of the turn out and questions asked by community members at their initial RHT Annuities engagement session held this week.

He says around 245 people attended, both in person and online.

Chiblow says the disbursement details, specific to the community, are not known yet, but the council are planning sessions where the community can actively participate in disbursement planning.

He adds they have also started the prep work focusing on health, wellness, and long-term prosperity strategies for the community.

Chiblow says more information sessions will also be held to ensure the community members are kept up to date on the settlement.
