Psychologist cycling across Canada for child mental health care

By Rosalind Russell – Registered Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Alex DiGiacomo, is cycling across Canada to advocate for access to child mental healthcare.

Despite not being an athlete and only having purchased a bike three months ago, she has made it across four provinces already arrived on Manitoulin Island yesterday.

She says an estimated 1.2 million children and youth, that is one in six, in Canada are affected by mental health struggles and 75% of those children and youth do not have access to the psychological care they need according to the Canadian Mental Health Association.

She adds her vision is three-fold: raise awareness that there are treatments that work, that most people do not have access to them, and to raise funds.

Dr. DiGiacomo is now on her way east continuing her Break the Cycle Campaign.

She has been documenting the journey on instagram @dralexdigiac
