By Rosalind Russell – The Red Bag Program has proven to be a boon once more for two area food banks.
Elliot Lake Food Bank president, Leonard Kutchaw, says Purolator couriers and local volunteers dropped off Purolator Red Bags at homes in Elliot Lake and in Spanish last month.
He says the bags were filled with non-perishable items then picked up this past Saturday by volunteers.
Kutchaw points out the food banks have experienced an increase in clients and in operating costs this year and this campaign has ensured the shelves are well stocked with over $22,000 in food value so far.
He adds the organization is looking at construction of a new food bank to expand and meet the ever-growing numbers of clients with the clearing of the lot expected soon.
