Long-term care funding

By Rosalind Russell – Ontario’s long-term care residents will soon be getting quicker access to care.

Provincial officials share that ten million dollars is being invested to help long-term care homes offer residents more diagnostic services onsite instead of travelling to a hospital.

Ontario’s Equipment and Training fund launched yesterday and officials say it will help long-term care homes purchase diagnostic equipment and train staff to treat conditions that often lead to preventable hospital visits like pneumonia, falls and more.

The province is also increasing reimbursements to homes that connect residents to care from mobile community lab services – all in an effort to avoid the emergency department.
