By Rosalind Russell – The numbers are in for a Chelmsford school that hosts an annual Homeless Night in October.
Angèle Carr, Principal at École secondaire catholique Champlain, says some 90 students and staff took part in the 13th Annual Homeless for a Night activity.
She says with only cardboard boxes and tarps for shelters, the students were able to experience the reality of being homeless, adding they also collected non-perishable food items and monetary donations.
Carr says they collected some $3,500 in donations, as well as non-perishable food items with the money and food going to four community organizations.
ÉSC Champlain recently donated hygiene products and undergarments to the Sudbury Women’s Centre, some 20 boxes of food items to the Chelmsford Food Bank, baby formula and diapers to the Sudbury Infant Food Bank, and winter socks and boots to the Elgin Street Mission.
