New outdoor rink endorsed by the city of Elliot Lake

By Rosalind Russell – A group of Elliot Lake volunteers who came together in mid-November following the closure of the Centennial Arena has received the full endorsement of the city’s Economic Development Standing committee for an outdoor rink.

Outdoor Rink Working Group spokesperson Caily Robinson says they want to create more accessible and inclusive outdoor rinks catering to various skating and hockey groups within the community.

The proposal includes a plan for a 100-foot by 60-foot outdoor rink at Kiwanis Park featuring with 42-inch-high walls and rounded corners.

She adds the group will be looking at raising funds, around $13,000, to construct the rink, and then turn it over to the city.

The committee unanimously endorsed the project, and the fundraising will now begin.
