Elliot Lake council unanimously passes motion for new Strategic Plan

By Rosalind Russell – After two drafts, and public input sessions, Tim Dobbie Consulting Limited presented the final draft of Elliot Lake’s Strategic Plan that will provide guidance to council and staff over the next few years.

Acting Mayor Andrew Wannan says it is not perfect, but it has structures and initiatives the city can move forward on, noting that it is meant to go back to and revamp at any time, adding it is a great start moving forward.

The plan has set out some clear goals including establishing a comprehensive marketing plan, including a focus on tourism, that it should focus on both new and returning residents for both traditional and remote worker opportunities, and expand on business retention and expansion while supporting local businesses.

It also calls on the city to establish a Community Improvement Plan especially when it comes to developing lands and improving or adding infrastructure and increasing tourism and economic development opportunities.

Wannan thanked Tim Doobie for his work and final presentation followed by the vote where council unanimously accepted the final plan, which comes into effect January 1st.
