New action centre opens in Espanola

By Rosalind Russell – Unifor (Domtar) Action Centre Grand Opening was held this week to welcome new opportunities for the workforce in Espanola.
The Centre Coordinators Dustin Drouin and Shannon Dubreuil are the Coordinators along with Chris Presley who works as a peer helper at the Action Centre and is also the president of Local 156. The trio are building working relationships with community service providers to assist people in finding work, specifically, those who have lost their employment due to the idling of the Domtar Pulp and Paper Mill on November 30th.
The local UNIFOR contingent is helping to contribute financially and providing other supports to those who need it most.
Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Mike Mantha extended a thank you to all those who are helping the individuals as well as the community move forward.
The centre is expected to remain in place for at least a year.
