CARP wants CPP protected

By Rosalind Russell – With Canada’s finance ministers meeting in Toronto today (Friday) the Canadian Association of Retired Persons is calling on the government to protect the national pension plan. The group has sent a letter to all finance ministers about Alberta potentially withdrawing from the C-P-P. The association’s Chief Operating Officer Bill VanGorder says it’s a ‘reckless scheme’ that entails walking off with more than half the C-P-P’s accumulated value. He says this is not about Alberta versus Ottawa – it’s about the long-term integrity of the public pension system and the wellbeing of seniors right across Canada.
