Beer availability expanding

By Rosalind Russell – It’s a couple of years off but beer and wine will be available in corner stores and more grocery stores.

Premier Doug Ford says corner stores and gas stations that sell food will be able to sell beer, wine, cider, and ready to drink alcoholic beverages.

It will allow all grocery stores to sell the same and scrap the cap on how many grocery stores have retail licences and end the restrictions that only allows the Beer Store to sell cases of 12 and 24.

Retailers that will be allowed to sell booze will be able to set their own prices, right now they have to follow prices set by the LCBO.

The new rules won’t come into effect until 2026 after a contract that sets rules for beer sales ends in 2025.
