By Rosalind Russell – It’s another step forward for the Robinson-Huron Treaty settlement agreement.
The $10 billion proposed settlement – involving 21 First Nations including Serpent River, Sagamok, Mississauga and those on Manitoulin Island – was reached with the provincial and federal governments last June.
Trustees with the Robinson Huron Treaty Litigation Fund met last week and signed the agreement.
It now goes to Ontario’s Minister of Indigenous Affairs to be signed, then to the federal Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations.
This after, officials say, the governments of Canada and Ontario completed their internal approval processes.
They add all these steps are expected to be done soon.
