Another Elliot Lake facility asks for patience following yet another outbreak

By Rosalind Russell – Another Elliot Lake facility is advising restricted visitation, this time due to a respiratory outbreak.

Elliot Lake’s St. Joseph’s General Hospital CEO Jeremy Stevenson says the Camillus Centre is in an Acute Respiratory Illness outbreak that was declared yesterday by Algoma Public Health.

He strongly recommends that visitation be limited for essential or compassionate reasons only.

The hospital, which oversees the centre and the long-term care facility, has had to deal with three different virus outbreaks in the last two weeks.

Stevenson emphasizes it is important for visitors to follow voluntary protocols to protect residents and themselves such as wearing a mask and washing hands.

He extends a thank you to the wider community for their understanding as staff continues to deal with the outbreaks.

For more information on respiratory viruses, please contact Algoma Public Health at: (705) 942-4646 ext. 5404 or contact your family health care provider.
