Major events cancelled due to Mother Nature – Ice Derby and Poker Run

By Rosalind Russell – A major tourist event for the City of Elliot Lake has had to be cancelled due to Mother Nature.

The release from the city states due to the unseasonably warm temperatures the decision has been made to cancel the 2024 Elliot Lake Trading Post 15th Annual Ice Fishing Derby presented by Glassy Bay Outfitters.

The statement says this action was taken was to ensure the safety of ice fishing derby registered participants, volunteers, and staff.  

As per the regulations of the derby, all the prizes collected for the event will be awarded in a random draw for registered participants only.

More information on the prize distribution will be released later this week.

Meanwhile, the Spanish Snowmobile Club says due to the lack of snow, they have also cancelled their annual Poker Run, which was to be held on February 17th.

They thank the Spanish Legion and Ladies who were to host the meal and awards night.

The club looks forward to seeing trail enthusiasts for their annual ATV run later in the year.
