By Rosalind Russell – A Blind River business owner is not happy with the response from council in connection to the Municipal Accommodation Tax.

Tyler MacIver of MacIver’s Motel & Camp says he made a presentation to council earlier this month asking they defer the tax for 2024 until more research and consultation was completed.

He says business owners feel the tax on their customers is detrimental to their businesses with no consultation, and a total disregard for business and privacy concerns, adding the tax will give the municipality the authority to audit all their financial statements.

MacIver adds he was disappointed since council took no action on their request, so business owners will be looking at other options to have their concerns addressed.
