Elliot Lake council elects a new mayor

By Rosalind Russell – Elliot Lake council only nominated one man for the job of mayor and that is Acting Mayor Andrew Wannan.

Wannan was nominated by Councillors Norman Mann and Charlie Flintoff both commenting on how well he has filled the chair since previous mayor Chris Patrie’s removal from the position.

Wannan says the council has gone through a difficult year but has worked as a team.

He was formally presented with the Mayor’s Civic Chain signifying the office and the important role he fills in the position.

Patrie was ousted from office in January 2022 after a judge ruled he violated two sections of the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act during his previous term as a city councillor and he lost all his appeals.
