By Rosalind Russell – Blind River Town Council will be hosting a public session in late May focusing on one of their municipal parks and nesting turtles in the vicinity.
Blind River resident, Ben Wiesner, asked council for the meeting earlier this week stating residents are concerned about the turtles that nest in Shirvon Park, as well as some concerns about the play equipment on the grounds.
He says the group of concerned residents strongly believe in habitat protection for all species, so they want work with the town in creating a win-win for the children as well as the turtles.
There has already been some discussion about closing the park and creating a green space, but no final decision has been made.
Council has agreed and will open the floor to a public presentation at their next meeting of May 21st.
