OPP AND WTPS RIDE PROGRAM RESULTS IN CHARGES

(ESPANOLA, ON) – Two people have been arrested and charged after a vehicle was stopped at a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program.

 

On May 16, 2024, shortly before 2:00 a.m., the Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service (WTPS) were conducting R.I.D.E. on Highway 6 in the Town of Espanola. A vehicle was stopped for a Highway Traffic Act violation. After further investigation, it was revealed that two of the passengers in the vehicle were on conditions not to be around each other. These passengers were subsequently arrested.

 

Police conducted a search and located approximately 63 grams of suspected fentanyl and approximately 83 grams of suspected methamphetamine with an estimated street value of approximately $33,000. Police also located approximately $10,000 in Canadian currency.

 

As a result of the investigation, Theo GREENE, 19-years-old from Ajax has been charged with:

  • Failure to comply with undertaking
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – two counts
  • Possession property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Passenger – fail to properly wear seat belt

 

Alexandra GAYLE, 19-years-old from Toronto has been charged with:

  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Obstruct peace officer
  • Failure to comply with undertaking
  • Passenger – fail to properly wear seat belt

 

The accused persons were held in custody and scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury Bail Court on May 16, 2024.
