Car show dedicated to devoted volunteer and politician

By Rosalind Russell – One of Espanola’s most popular events, The Knight Cruisers Car Show, is set for this weekend in remembrance of a Sudbury volunteer, politician and car enthusiast, Gerry Montpellier.

Club President Richard Stroud says they will be remembering Gerry Montpellier,  a big supporter of the club, and their favorite auctioneer adding over the years he had helped raise thousands of dollars for various initiatives.

Stroud adds Montpellier was a City of Greater Sudbury councillor who passed away on February 21st, 2024, so Montpellier’s Bucket T hot rod will be featured at the registration tent at this Saturday’s event.

He says the public is invited to drop by and check out the vintage vehicle along with the over 125 vehicles that will be on display around the Oval at the Espanola Regional Recreation Centre.

He adds the event is free but asks the public to consider bringing donations of non-perishable goods to assist the Massey Food Bank this year.

The event includes a plant sale and vendors tables. There will also be the Big Breakfast by the Masons upstairs, burgers by the Espanola Elks, and ice cream by Espanola High School Chariot Dragsters.
