FitSpirit Club raising funds for women shelters

By Rosalind Russell – At École Saint-Joseph in Blind River, several girls in Grades 6, 7 and 8 are proud participants in the school’s FitSpirit Club under the guidance of teacher Heather Roberts.

Sophie Azzi, a former student at École Saint-Joseph and ÉSC Jeunesse-Nord says she was inspired by her past participation in the FitSpirit Club and took the initiative of supporting the young students by organizing a five-kilometre run in the community of Blind River.

She says the race will take place this Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Blind River Boom Camp with the girls and community supporters taking part.

The profits will go towards the women shelters in Mississauga First Nation and Elliot Lake. Photo: A five-kilometre run will be held in Blind River this week to raise funds for local women’s shelters, but also to advocate for fitness among young girls. Photos provided.
