Flags lowered in Elliot Lake in remembering Algo Mall collapse

By Rosalind Russell – The city of Elliot Lake has lowered its flags to half-mast acknowledging the 12th anniversary of the Algo Mall collapse, and to remember one of their own.

Mayor Andrew Wannan says the flags were lowered on Sunday for the anniversary of the collapse, and also to honour the recent passing of long-time employee Daryl Halloch.

Halloch began his career years ago as a summer student eventually working his way up to Director of Public Works.

Two people died in the mall collapse, which was eventually demolished.

The city purchased the property in 2019 as a municipal asset.
