Photo and article by Grant Lewis – BOO…BOO…Ah yes, the sound frequently heard in Massey at Hallowe’en as you walk the HAUNTED TRAIL!!! This annual event has thrilled and of course scared young and old over the years. And all to raise funds to provide playground equipment for kids in town. All those countless volunteer hours have now paid off.
Soon to be seen at the existing playground at the Memorial Park at the Fairgrounds will be a Miracle Gravity Rail. This is a swing which is a cross between a zip line and a carousel. Thanks to the over 50 volunteers, and local businesses, $40,000 has been raised!
A special shout-out to Tiffany Hall at Chutes Confectionary, who has been selling Lions bingo cards for 18 years, and Catch the Ace tickets for 10 years. Hopefully everything will be up and running by this September, along with a much needed shade structure. The town will be supplying the labour, expertise and construction. A real community effort!!
The Espanola Lions Club is excited to be part of this dedicated team, with a donation of $20,000 to help with this wonderful project. On hand to receive the cheque are Tiffany Hall and dedicated volunteer Mary Dillen. Well done everyone.
