By Rosalind Russell – The final plans for the Blind River Community Days are nearly finalized with the popular event undergoing a major revamp following the pandemic.
Charlyn Beneteau the Community Days Committee says their theme this year is Bringing it Back and with the support of the wider community, the event is shaping up to be one of the best.
She says Community Days will kick off on Thursday, July 11th with a movie night, demolition derby followed by a concert on Friday, parade and play activities through the day on Saturday, and car and bike show on Sunday with many other features.
Beneteau adds the four days of events would not have been possible without the donations of several businesses, which helped them raise the $100,000 to host the popular attraction.
Anyone wishing to host an event or provide an activity or vendors booth, can contact the committee via the link on our websites.
The committee extends a thank you to their Diamond Sponsors: Bruno’s Auto Repairs, Cameco, Blind River Home Hardware, and the Town of Blind River, which each donated $10,000 towards Community Days in Blind River.
Here’s a brief breakdown of the activities:
Thursday, July 11: Movie Night in the Park featuring the classic throwback, The Sandlot.
Friday, July 12: Demolition Derby followed by Concerts on The Lake.
Saturday, July 13: Parade at noon starting at Veterans Park and ending at W.C. Eaket with Matt Jacques MCing. From 1-5 PM, enjoy ‘all you can play’ activities for $10, including an inflatables park, laser tag, bubble soccer, sumo suits, a trackless train, and more! We also encourage folks to sign up for Tug-of-War via our Facebook page. There will be vendors, live music from local artists and access to our Beer Garden from 1-8 PM. The night continues with a dance at the Mississaugi Sports Complex from 7 PM – 2 AM, $10 entry but a chance to win a door prize including a YETI cooler.
Sunday, July 14: Pancake breakfast at the Blind River Legion, followed by a Car and Bike Show on both sides of the river. Vendors and local shops will be open, and JR’s Pizza and Poutine Fest will host a Touch The Truck event. The event concludes with a firework display at Town Park at dusk (weather dependent).
Additionally, they are selling this year’s Community Days t-shirts for $20. Don’t forget to wear your shirt on Saturday, July 13th, for a chance to win a prize.
