By Rosalind Russell – The pool facility in Elliot Lake is expected to reopen soon following extensive renovations over the last two years.
Special Projects Manager Bill Goulding provided details of the $2.7-million project to council on Monday evening and asked for approval for an additional $45,000 to cover some unforeseen costs.
He explains that includes a new diving board to accommodate a side entrance, helping to resolve crowding and traffic issues that were experienced with the original board.
Goulding adds most of the additional costs are related to the hot tub including a relocation of the emergency shut off equipment to meet code compliance. Goulding noted the previous location was not very accessible.
He could not provide a date for reopening yet because there is still renos going on including upgrades to the roof, but he does say it will be soon.
Council unanimously approved the additional funding and thanked Goulding and staff for all the work carried out on the facility.
