Franco-Ontarian Day being celebrated today

By Rosalind Russell – It is Franco-Ontarian Day and French schools across the Manitoulin, Sudbury and Algoma districts are hosting various in-school events including raising the iconic green and white flag.
September 25th,1975 was the first time the Franco-Ontarian flag flew at the University of Sudbury.
The day became official in 2010.
Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon also has a special day planned, the construction countdown ceremony of the new French-language Catholic school in Val Thérèse.
The new facility will unite students currently enrolled at École Ste-Thérèse (Val Thérèse), École Notre-Dame (Hanmer), and École St-Joseph (Hanmer).
It will also include a new French-language daycare centre.
According to the province, there are over 622,000 francophones in Ontario, and over a million and a half people speak the language – making it our country’s second-largest francophone community outside of Quebec.
