By Rosalind Russell – Multiple bids have come in for the architectural design of the new arena/community centre in the City of Greater Sudbury.
The $200-million centre is one step closer to reality with five bids submitted for its architectural design.
Three companies from Toronto, one from Alberta and a fifth from Kansas City in the United States have laid out their specs and costs to build the arena with seating for 5,800 and adjacent amenities including common areas, facilities and more.
The next steps in the city’s timeline include identifying the venue operator by December, selection of the final location in January, design and cost approval by June followed by awarding the construction contract in March of 2026.
The grand opening is slated for May 2028.
City staff is to provide an update to city council during their October 8th meeting.
