By Rosalind Russell – People who want to assist the vulnerable and the homeless are invited to take part in the Third Annual Homeless Challenge in Elliot Lake next week.
The annual event will be held October 23rd to October 27th and is overseen by Maplegate House for Women.
Organized by the incorporated Elliot Lake Women’s Group, the challenge involves some employees, as well as other community members, spending five nights in conditions as close to those that the unhoused population experiences daily.
It is held for three reasons, to raise awareness, remove the stigma that homelessness engenders and to raise funds to help support the operations of Larry’s Place Fresh Start Shelter for Men as well as the city’s local homeless population.
It will be held at 1 College Place, and sponsorships and donations would be much appreciated.
