By Rosalind Russell – The Centennial Arena repairs are going well but re-opening will not be likely until December, possibly January.
Elliot Lake council gave its unanimous approval for spending around $100,000 for replacement and repairs to the sprinkler system in the facility.
The work began yesterday and is expected to take up to six weeks to complete.
The funding will come from the City’s Buildings and Facilities Capital Reserve.
The city has received a letter from contractor, WRD, that the arena is now structurally sound and ready for re-occupancy, but the building now needs final inspections from building inspectors to ensure all codes are met before the public can access the site.
The city is now waiting for that list of criteria required before anyone can enter or utilize the building, so no firm date for reopening can be provided at this time.
