(ESPANOLA, ON) – Three people have been arrested and charged following a traffic stop for stunt driving on Highway 17 in the Sables-Spanish Rivers Township.
On November 5, 2024, at approximately 1:30 p.m., the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop for stunt driving on Highway 17 in the Sables-Spanish Rivers Township. Three occupants were observed in the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was arrested for driving while prohibited.
Additionally, police seized over 33 Suboxone tablets with an estimated street value of $650, over 82 grams of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of $8,200, over 9.7 grams of suspected crack cocaine with estimated street value of $1,455, over .34 grams of suspected fentanyl with estimated street value of $100, and over 4.23 grams of suspected Percocet with an estimated street value of $4,200.
As a result, the driver, Lance BENNET, 39-years-old from Lively, was charged with:
- Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking -other drugs
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking, opioid (other than heroin) – two counts
- Speeding 50+ km/h over posted limit
- Drive motor vehicle – no licence
- Drive motor vehicle – perform stunt – excessive speed
- Drive motor vehicle with cannabis readily available
- Driving while under suspension – two counts
The passenger, Shannon FORTIN, 37-years-old from Hanmer, was charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – other drugs
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin) – two counts
The second passenger, Liane SCOTT, 43-years-old from Valley East, was charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – other drugs
- Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroine) – two counts
- Possession of a Schedule I substance – opioid (other than heroin)
The three accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on December 2, 2024, at 10:30 a.m.
