By Rosalind Russell – The Municipality of Huron Shores has had to close one of its major bridge byways due to structural problems.
Town CAO, Clerk Natashia Roberts, says the municipality has closed the Dean Lake Road Bridge to all traffic effective immediately, following recommendations from Kresin Engineering Corporation. She says an engineering review determined that the structure is in a state of significant deterioration, creating a risk to public safety.
Roberts adds the assessment was based on a review of load evaluation reports, biennial inspection reports, and steel and concrete testing results indicating the bridge is unsafe for use, and closure was necessary to ensure the safety of all residents and travelers.
She says the next steps will be discussed at the upcoming Council meeting next Wednesday at the Iron Bridge Lions Hall where council will deliberate whether to proceed with further detailed inspections, repairs, or other options for addressing the structural concerns.
Roberts adds motorists are encouraged to use the alternative route from Highway 17 to Eley Road.
Updates will be provided following the Council meeting and information is available at
