Elementary students learn about health care with the help of a college

By Rosalind Russell – Students at an Elliot Lake school got a first-hand look at different careers they can consider in the future.

Communications coordinator, Amélie Cyr, says in collaboration with Collège Boréal, students in grades 7 and 8 at École catholique Georges Vanier discover a variety of interesting professions.

She says they have hands-on learning experiences once a month that allow them to explore a trade or career.

This month, they explored careers related to paramedic care.

She says the workshop included new knowledge about first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and students put their tactical skills to the test by performing resuscitation techniques and chest compressions on CPR manikins.

Cyr adds that then, they enjoyed having a friendly competition between teams to see who could get the best results when applying the techniques learned.
