Full-time Canine Unit introduced on Manitoulin Island

By Rosalind Russell – The United Chiefs and Councils of Manitoulin Anishinaabe Police Service has introduced the first full-time Canine Unit to Manitoulin Island.

According to Police Chief James Killeen, Constable Nick Beaudry and his police service dog, Ben, will provide services when and where needed.

He says Beaudry who was born and raised on Manitoulin, has well over a decade experience as a police officer, including his latest stint as a canine officer with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.

Killeen adds Beaudry and Ben undertook a grueling 18-week course including suspect apprehension and searching for evidence, as well as another five-week course in drug detection.
