Board chair Suzanne Trivers says the selection committee awarded the Individual Award to Steve Hemsworth of Prince Township and the Organizational Award tothe Ontario Aboriginal HIV/AIDS Strategy.
She says Hemsworth is well known for his work as fire chief and CAO of the township and has committed hours to promoting public safety through his leadership and public education programs.
Trivers says the Ontario Aboriginal HIV/AIDS Strategy is a nonprofit adding their compassionate harm reduction team is made up of four individuals who are all people of colour and who have lived experience.
She points out they are also the only Indigenous HIV/AIDS program across Ontario that focuses on prevention and culture as a way of connecting the community and their needs.
