Alzheimer Society of Ontario marks legislative session for dementia care

By Rosalind Russell – The Alzheimer Society of Ontario says the government’s new broad commitment to improving dementia care will improve care for patients across the country.

Cathy Barrick, CEO of the Alzheimer Society of Ontario, says Bill 121 has passed the Third Reading and is expected to receive Royal Assent shortly, marking a crucial step forward in redefining the dementia care system and addressing health workforce training requirements.

She says Bill 235, the Support for Seniors and Caregivers Act, has also passed the Second Reading and has been referred to the Committee.

Together, Barrick explains the Bills represent a coordinated and comprehensive approach to enhancing the quality of life for people in Ontario affected by dementia.

She adds new funding for the First Link® Care Navigation program for the next three years will allow the 26 local Alzheimer Societies across Ontario to maintain staffing levels, enhance service delivery, and ensure support for patients and their families.
