Author wants your Chi-Cheemaun photos and stories – 50th anniversary around the corner

By Rosalind Russell – An author is looking for your photos and stories to share in a commemorative book to mark the 50th anniversary of the MS Chi-Cheemaun.

The ferry has run from May to October annually since its maiden voyage in September 1974 between South Baymouth on Manitoulin Island and Tobermory on the Bruce Peninsula,

Richard Thomas, an Owen Sound based author is compiling an anthology this Spring to celebrate the milestone with the release planned for the ferry’s 2024 sailing season.

Thomas is a frequent visitor on the ferry and a long-time collaborator of the Owen Sound Transportation Commission, which as an agency of the Province of Ontario, oversees operation of the boat.

The company has commissioned him to produce the book and a video or two to mark the anniversary.

People wishing to contribute are asked to send in their stories and photos by mid-March to be considered for inclusion in the book.

Stories and photos can be emailed to Thomas at chicheemaun50@gmail.com.
