By Rosalind Russell – Blackbear Camp hosted their usual karaoke night last week, but this one was different as it provided support to one of their youngest campers who is fighting cancer.
Camp owner Karen Nicholls Ellin says camper Mona Morris had organized a fundraiser in support of 21-year-old Valerie Crispin who is fighting Stage Four Hodgkins Lymphoma.
She says Valerie’s parents, Luc and Julie from Val Caron, have been long-time seasonal campers and Morris wanted to help them out raising $1,200.
Ellin says during karaoke, another camper stepped up to have his head shaved and that led to several campers doing the same with the group raising $3, 340 for Valerie.
She adds Valerie was gracious in her thanks for their support adding she is now undertaking chemotherapy.
