Challenge issued for former players in support of Centennial Arena

By Rosalind Russell – In honour of long-time coach and their Dad, Elmer Aelicks, his family are putting out a challenge to all past players that were coached by him.

The challenge has its official launch today with the family stating they will match up to $5,000 for any donations made in Elmer’s name by September 27th.

Coach Aelicks was active for 25 years with various levels of hockey, and he served as one of the chairs of the Arena Fund Committee and was also responsible for the walk-athon, which raised funds to put a roof on the facility.

He was also very active in the success of the annual hockey school and in 1981, was presented with the Elliot Lake Civic Award for his contributions to the city.

Donations can be made in his name directly to the city fund for ongoing repairs to the building.
