By Rosalind Russell – A Bruce Mines business has been recognized for its entrepreneurial savvy with provincial recognition.
Community Futures Ontario says Penokean Hills Farms is the winner of its Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the annual conference held in Sault Ste. Marie last week.
The Bruce Mines company operates an abattoir, which they built in 2023, where it produces beef and pork products that it markets throughout Ontario.
Officials say to ensure a constant supply to keep the operation sustainable, the company established a value chain, the only one of its kind in Ontario, working with farmers from the Algoma, Sudbury, Manitoulin, New Liskeard and Cochrane regions who sell cattle and/or crops.
