By Rosalind Russell – East Algoma OPP is advising the public that many schemes are currently being used to defraud the public.
Officials say scammers have increased their contact frequency and footprint in the East Algoma area… and a significant increase in unwanted texts and phone calls from scammers are being recorded.
They add to never click links provided in random text messages, and any legitimate agency will never request a payment by pre-paid gift carts and will never ask you to verify credit card numbers over the phone.
If you believe you have been a victim of a fraud or a scam, police ask that you call them and report it.
