East Algoma OPP investigating animal cruelty complaint

By Rosalind Russell – East Algoma OPP is investing an animal cruelty complaint involving the shooting of a cat.

Constable Bev Gauthier says last Saturday around noon, a cat was shot on River Road in the Town of Blind River.

She says the owner had let the cat out the evening before, but it returned with a bloody wound in its mouth.

She adds the owners took it to a veterinarian in Elliot Lake where the cat succumbed to its injuries.

Gauthier says it was determined the cat had been shot through its mouth with the low calibre projectile exiting the chin area, which then penetrated the chest and became lodged.
