Elliot Lake committee reviewing possible closure of a local laneway

By Rosalind Russell – The City of Elliot Lake’s Bylaw and Planning Committee is reviewing a request for the closure of a local laneway.

Municipal clerk, Natalie Bray, told the committee the city has received a request for the closure from residents adding under their lane way closure policy, two property owners whose property abuts the entirety of a laneway can make the request in writing, which was done.

She says the residents want a pedestrian laneway from Paris Drive to a bush trail behind the residential properties closed, but no reason was provided.

Bray adds laneways are generally retained under the Official Plan to allow pedestrian links and to keeping walking alternatives to bus stops.

She recommended the public provide their input for a period of three weeks and then the committee can review the request and make a recommendation to council.

Comments must be submitted by December 4th.
