Elliot Lake Firefighters acknowledged by Feed Ontario for their work with the food bank

By Rosalind Russell – Elliot Lake Firefighters are being praised by the local food bank and Feed Ontario for their diligence in supporting the Elliot Lake Emergency Food Bank.

The Feed Ontario network has named the contingent of volunteers as All Stars in acknowledging 32 years of them hosting a food drive every December.

The food drive is held every year in partnership with the Moose 94.1 Algoma-Manitoulin.

Feed Ontario says their work has had a tremendous impact, for example, raising over $17,000 in December 2023.

The food bank says the assistance is vital to their continued operation.

Last year, they had an increase in numbers and costs of about 40% serving 4,410 adults, and 1,495 children over the age of one year old.

That translates into over 50+ thousand meals just for Elliot Lake with the food bank also supporting the local women and men shelters, the Beehive, Harvest Kitchen and school programs.
