Elliot Lake Food Bank releases new numbers

By Rosalind Russell – It is February and the Elliot Lake Food Bank annual statement shows a marked increase in assistance, which means it needs ongoing support to fill the shelves.

According to the release, they appreciate the work done every day by their all-volunteer organization and how their recent move to a larger facility has helped them meet the increasing demand.

The board notes that they had an increase of around 40% serving over 5,800 individuals, which translates into over 50+ thousand meals just for Elliot Lake.

They also realize the public does not know where the support comes from, stressing they do not get any money from either the provincial or federal government, strictly though donations including from Feed Ontario.

The food bank operates like a retail business and costs including rent, taxes, hydro, maintenance, and more.

The board thanks the public for its ongoing support and donations are welcome throughout the year.

Donations can be brought to the food bank at 29 Columbia Walk, or at www.elefb.ca For more information call 705 461 3663.
