By Rosalind Russell Over the weekend the City of Elliot Lake, its businesses and organizations helped the tenants of 22 Hirshhorn Avenue who lost their home to a fire last week.
The City says Hydro One and Enbridge Gas have restored power and gas to the neighbouring apartment complex so that those residents could safely return to their homes.
They were evacuated during last Friday morning’s fire that roared through the adjacent building destroying it land eaving some 30 adults without a home.
No children were living in the complex.
The City says there are two local businesses; The Beehive and Maplegate that have set up depots for clothing and necessities.
Maplegate says the donations have been overwhelming and are asking people to hold off.
For the time being, please hold on to your donations.
Their facility is completely full, we need time to sort and create a space for those affected to be able to access the truly incredible amount of donations that have been received.
They are looking for some volunteers to assist us this week in sorting and setting up all items.
Please contact Administrative Assistant Rebecca at 705 461 7977 or via e-mail at administrative.assistant@elwg.ca for more information on donating your time to this cause.
The fire department stayed on site throughout the day Friday to ensure there were no hotspots adding the investigation is continuing.
