Espanola FreshCo makes huge donation to food bank

By Rosalind Russell – Staff at the Espanola Helping Hand Food Bank were delighted to receive a hefty donation of gift cards from the local FreshCo grocery store yesterday morning.

Store owner Kim Gardiner says customers donated $6,673.54 to the food bank throughout the month of December.

She says her head office, Empire, also matched donations over one weekend during the month adding to the grand total (with Deb Sokoloski winning gift cards and Cineplex tickets for that special draw).

She adds the rest of the funds were raised through a raffle of three large baskets with the draw held at the end of the year. (The winners are Lynn Massicotte, Stephanie Frazier and Sam Kiss.)

Gardiner adds the gift cards will allow the food bank to be able to replenish their shelves on as needed basis throughout the next few months, and thanks the customers for their generosity.
